A new chapter in the Northern Cyclones history books began Sunday morning as a new look Cyclones team took to the rink. With the demise of the Senior ‘A’ team 5 new faces kitted up for the Cyclones for the first time this season. Defencemen Steve Hill, Gavin Moore and Chris Millar joined forward Clark Caughey and netminder Steve Gilmartin as the latest additions to the Cyclones roster.
With the Cyclones needing some time to get used to new line combinations the game started slowly with neither side making much of their possession infact it took almost 7 minutes before Cyclones captain Tony Sinton broke the deadlock spinning to put the puck over Ryan Law’s right shoulder.
The goals then came thick and fast as on the next shift a long range shot from Chris Millar flew into the top corner, then a pass from Clark Caughey on the right wing deflected of a defenseman’s stick through the 5-hole of the Chiefs netminder.
Richard Gault gave the Cyclones a 4 goal lead going into the second period when his twine seeking missile from the point left The Lawman helpless as the puck made the net bulge.
The Cyclones started the second period where they had left off in the first with Tony Sinton and Clark Caughey adding their second tally’s of the day and with the end of the game approaching fast the Cyclones were on the way to recording their first shut of the season. Netminder Steve Gilmartin, however, had other plans as he put the puck into his own goal with minutes remaining.
